SKY QUALIFIES FOR PRESTIGOUS VERSATILITY AWARD FROM HCA BY COMPLETING HIS NAJ AGILITY TITLE & HIS RN RALLY TITLE!
Sky is a lovely boy, bred by us and now owned and loved by Dina M. Planche in Baton Rouge, LA. Our friendship with Dina began many years ago when she brought her first Havanese, Tiger, to compete in obedience at a show here in Houston where we were competing in conformation. When Dina began to look for a Havanese to enter the world of conformation in addition to performance sports like Obedience, Rally and Agility, we were pleased to have a litter planned that we thought might be of interest.
That litter was between one of our favorite girls here, Tess (Ch. Tejano's Hidden Treasure) and a very special stud named Brody (Multi Ch. Elfin Snowhite Startin' Over, ROMX). Brody has had many highlights in his show career. He remains one of only two Havanese to be #1 in both Breed and All Breed points for the year, a record he set in 2000 and which remained unbroken until 2006! In addition, he has won an award of merit at every National Specialty in which he has competed...a total of 6 AOMs there. Also, he was the Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club show during the first year that Havanese were eligible for competition and won an AOM the next year. Brody has sired a total of 21 Havanese champions with several others on their way, sired the 2nd Havanese to receive his MACH title in Agility (and is grandsire to the 
1st ever MACH Havanese), sired the #1 Obedience Havanese and #1 Agility Havanese for 2005, and has many other titleholders in Rally, Obedience and Agility. Brains & Beauty...what more could we want? Well, health testing is something we value as well and Brody's record there is also quite impressive. At the age of 10 1/2 he is an HCA 4 Star Health Award winner, he still passes his CERF eye exam, qualifies for CHIC, along with 15 of his offspring who also have their CHIC numbers! He has an 8 1/2 year old son who still passes his CERF exam as well, so we are pleaed to add Brody's many outstanding qualities to our lines here!
Sky is an outstanding little dog who is working to follow in his father's footsteps! He finished his AKC Championship quickly from the 6-9 puppy class with 4 majors, 2 BOB wins and 2 BOS wins over specials. He is currently being shown on a very selective basis in the breed ring with his handler, Lois DeMers. Still just a young boy, he continues to take BOB more often than not and has multiple group placements under his belt (or is that collar?). We're very pleased with his record in the ring so far and look forward to an amazing year in 2007!
Sky also continues his parents' tradition of excellent health testing results. We thank his owner, Dina Planche, for her commitment there to improve the health of the breed by doing such extensive health testing with Sky. He is CERF normal, BAER normal, OFA patella normal, OFA cardiac normal, OFA elbows prelim normal and OFA hips prelim excellent.
Plans call for Sky to continue his winning tradition as a special on the circuit for 2007, with several breaks to come home to Baton Rouge with his loving owner, Dina. But don't assume he is just living the life of luxury eating Liver Biscotti on the chaise lounge there at home! No, Sky is a hard working fellow who is hoping to make his performance events debut in 2008. He's also beginning some agility training and loves that as well. We're hoping that Sky will be our first Tejano Havanese to win the Havanese Club of America's versatility award. Goodness knows, he and Dina are working hard at it and are having lots of fun in the process. And isn't that what it is all about?
